The past eight weeks have flown by, thanks to a beautiful, tiny human, Alethia Amor McKeever. She was born in the wee hours of the morning on April 29, after a labor so quick that the doctor didn't arrive until after she was born. Thankfully we had planned a home birth, so she wasn't born in a taxi. Ryan did a wonderful job staying calm and catching the baby.
During the last few weeks of school, various subs helped fill in for Rebecca, and Ryan returned to teaching Bible after a week at home. The students loved seeing Alethia on the several occasions that she visited school. The 6th grade boys were especially enamored.
Rebecca's mom and sister were both able to visit in May. They helped around the house so much that we didn't know what to do when they had to leave. They were also able to explore our neighborhood and go on a tour of some of the 500-year-old parts of Bogotá.
Before our flight back to the United States on June 5, Alethia needed a birth certificate, passport and a baby-in-arms ticket. After two trips to the notary, three trips to the papeleríá, three trips to the U.S. embassy, and two trips to Delta offices, she was ready to go.
Our last weekend in Bogotá was spent saying many goodbyes both at school and at church. Students, co-workers, brothers and sisters in Christ– two years ago we hardly knew anyone, but now they are so close. We miss them so much.
Please pray for us as we adjust to the United States, as there are many aspects of life that are completely different (for example, Rebecca still hasn't driven a car since last summer) Please pray for the teachers at ECA, especially the new recruits who will fill our positions. Please pray for our students as they enjoy summer break and then transition into a new school year. Please pray for Ryan as he applies for jobs. Praise God for a healthy baby, a growing family, a new beginning, and hope for the future even in the midst of uncertainty.
Thank you for all your prayers and support during our two school years in Colombia. We learned so much from the challenges and joys of teaching, from our friends and neighbors, and from starting our marriage off in a country far away from our previous routines and expectations. We hope our students learned at least a fraction of the amount we learned. Thank you so much for making these past two years possible.
